Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s Disease Q & A  in Manhattan & New York, NY

What is Crohn’s disease?

Crohn's disease is a long-term (chronic) condition of the digestive system, and is part of a family of conditions called inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Crohn's disease usually affects the area near the end of the small intestine or the beginning parts of the large intestine, but can affect any part of the digestive tract.

Crohn's disease causes inflammation deep into the tissues of the intestinal wall, often causing debilitating symptoms. Unique to Crohn's disease, as it differs from other forms of IBD, it can affect scattered areas of the bowel, leaving some areas normal and not inflamed.

Crohn’s disease can be mild or severe with periods of increased inflammation in your gastrointestinal tract. Often, flairs are unpredictable and difficult for those who suffer from them. Expert management of Crohn's is important in the long run, to avoid significant long-term complications.
